Gathering
My fingers are still stained blue from combing clusters of wild blueberries off the north facing dunes of Lake Superior in the barren lands north of the Big Two Hearted. There’s something very satisfying about adding several pounds of wild blueberries and silver salmon to your larder by your own hands…it grounds you in ways nothing else can. Unseasonably warm westerlies added to the mix allowing an hour of skinny dipping and enjoying the sun along Superior Shores…on the first day of fall no less!
I’ve been away from the blogosphere lately out actually DOING instead of reading/writing/spectating. Late summer has proved to be a busy guide year for me with business holding its own. Just finished a brilliant week of fall weather on Georgian Bay on the heels of a long weekend of teaching paddling here in Sleeping Bear Country which was on the heels of our Greenland Training Camp…for which I am the trusted chef. Now, we look ahead to a paddling/wine tasting weekend (why the hell not?) and our Surfest 09! This will be a conclave of fun paddling personalities sharing good food and stories and their considerable skills for wave play on the sun warmed fall waters of Lake Michigan. Come join the party!
